From September 17th till September 28th, exactly 50 years after the battle of Arnhem, I have placed a sculpture on the former battleground in Oosterbeek, The Netherlands. The work was made as a negative shape of a trench, a dug out with another negative shape which could be seen through the openings. The second shape was that of a soldier, representing all missing soldiers. The work was placed beside original remainders of a trench dating back from the battle of Arnhem, 1944. The work was designed for this place after two missnig airbornes had been excavated in a garden nearby, during the period in which I designed the project.
