From September 17th till September 28th, exactly 50 years after the battle of Arnhem, I have placed a sculpture on the former battleground in Oosterbeek, The Netherlands. At the same time I made a small installation in the Airbornemuseum "Hartenstein", nearby the site of the sculpture. The year before I had been interviewing British vetrans about the personal belongings they carried during the fighting in Oosterbeek. Out of the list I collected I selected 3 significant items. A watch, a wallet and a packet of photographs. By casting them in bronze I transformed these objects in memory-objects. It was my aim to intervene the museum, which is full of weapons and uniforms, with a personal story. The blurred photo above the displaycase represents all soldiers who are not mentioned or visible in the museumcollection.
